All information about classroom celebrations will be shared on Class Dojo and/or will be sent home in the students' folders. In order to make our classroom as safe as possible, I prefer food treats not to be shared unless they are individually wrapped and can be sent home for parental discretion if needed. As an option, in place of snacks, if you want (but do not need) to send in a treat for a birthday or celebration, students can bring in fun school supplies like pencils, erasers, small toys, etc. We have 15 students in our class this year.
We will have snack time during the day. Students are welcome to bring a healthy snack to eat if they would like; please, no soda or candy. We will not have access to the water fountain, but we will have water bottle refilling stations. Students are welcomed and encouraged to bring a water bottle to school! I will give them opportunities to fill the bottles as much as needed to stay hydrated, especially during the warmer months.
Our lunch is at 12:40pm, so plan accordingly with ice packs for perishable items. Students can order lunch from school. The menu for the month is available on the website to view. As often as possible, whenever weather is permitting, we will utilize the outdoors for recess, so please send jackets/sweaters on cooler days. When the weather starts to get colder, I will send a reminder about boots, gloves and hats.
This year, students will only be given homework if they don't complete their work in class or need extra practice. Students should read for twenty minutes and practice their math facts nightly. We will start with a focus on addition and subtraction fluency at the beginning of the year and then transition into multiplication and division fluency. They will also receive spelling practice weekly to do at home to be better prepared for weekly spelling tests.
